Rural Energy Development Programme (REDP)

Completion of MHDSs

Works have been completed in the two largest Micro Hydro Demonstration Schemes supported by REDP, viz. Labdi Khola MHDS (56 kW) in Gwalichaur VDC, and Bhim Khola MHDS (42 kW) in Bhimghithe VDC of Baglung districts. The special feature of the Labdi Khola MHDS is that it uses high voltage and low voltage transmission systems. Besides, the power house is a framed structured RCC building. The tailrace water would be used very efficiently for irrigation with the construction of an irrigation channel, which would also work as a power canal for the proposed Labdi Khola II MHDS (30 kW) in the same VDC. As most of the transmission / distribution lines pass along the Kharbang- Burtibang road, the scheme is being perceived as the state-of –the –art in the area by the local people, which is very much underdeveloped and far from rest of the world. Promotion of various electricity based enduses such as stone cutting/crushing industry, press, high vision hall, computer institute, grill industries are in the process of establishment. The Bhim Khola MHDS has a very sound natural rocky intake engraved by the local masons in the early days.

Similarly, Samundra Sagar peltric-set scheme (3 kW) in Bhimghithe VDC, Dalami peltric-set (3kW) in Rangkhani VDC and Bhim Danda peltricset (2kW) in Dhullubaskot VDC have been completed in Baglung district which are benefiting 30, 27 and 22 households respectively. Likewise, Lekhpani Khola peltric-set (2kW) has been installed to benefit 19 households in Kharpachowk VDC of Kavre district.

A pico-hydro of 0.2 kW capacity has been installed as an R & D initiative in Jalbire, Baramchi of Sindhupalchowk district. This has benefited 5 households.
